Introducing Live Video on Teen Trips
Director of Product Management
School. Practice. A friend’s house. Teens have places to be, and parents want to stay plugged in along the way.
That’s why we designed Uber teen accounts: a parent-linked experience to help teens get where they’re going with more independence and always-on safety features, while giving parents a way to stay connected every step of the way.
Now, we’re adding another feature to give parents peace of mind: live video streaming. With this, parents can check in and see how their teen’s rides are going on demand by accessing a live video stream of their ride. Through the driver’s smartphone front-facing camera, parents will be able to see their teen in the car in real time. The feature is live today in 9 US markets – with more to come nationwide in the coming weeks.
Added peace of mind, with privacy built in
If a driver has live video enabled, we’ll send the teen’s parent or guardian who’s linked to their account a push notification when the trip begins. With a quick tap, they can begin viewing the live video.
When live video streaming is active, both the teen and the driver are notified, creating shared transparency that helps encourage respectful interactions throughout the trip.
Uber teen accounts started as an idea from parents, was shaped by feedback from drivers, and has grown into a trusted global service relied upon by families across more than 50 countries. Since launching in 2023, families use teen accounts to complete tens of millions of trips every year.
Live video is the latest way we're updating teen accounts to meet the needs of families and build on existing safety features like live trip tracking, PIN verification, and audio recording. As live video expands nationwide over the coming weeks, we'll continue listening to feedback and improving the experience to help families stay connected when they’re on the go.
