Airport regulations
Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) requires all drivers to follow airport rules and regulations while on property. A few key rules are listed below, while the complete list can be found on pages 31-33 of the MAC TNC Ordinance.
- When on airport property, the Uber Driver app must be open and online at all times (drivers must not go Offline until exiting the airport area).
- Drivers must maintain airport property to the best of their ability, which includes treating the restrooms with respect and utilizing trash bins.
- The Uber sticker must always be displayed on the front passenger windshield facing outward. Drivers can obtain this Uber decal by filling out this form to receive one by mail.
- All drivers must obtain an annual airport permit to receive airport requests. The airport permit sticker must be displayed on the top, middle of your windshield. For more information, visit MSP’s permitting website or head to the airport’s permitting office located at 3350 East 72nd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55450.
- Solicitation, in any capacity, is prohibited.
Failure to adhere to the rules and regulations may result in the receipt of a citation or restriction of access to airport trips. Please note that Uber will not pay for any citations drivers may incur.
Pro-Tips
- Driver cancellations: Trip cancellations can take away from the great Uber experience that both riders and drivers expect. Please remember that drivers who improperly use the app and intentionally disrupt the service, including excessively canceling rides or asking riders to cancel rides, may lose the ability to receive trip requests to and from the airport through the Uber Driver app.
- Ground transportation and airport security staff: Airport rules are as important as traffic rules. Airports expect Drivers to follow the instructions of the airport staff.
Pickups at the airport
At airports, Uber’s technology uses a geofence-based queue system to dispatch trips. This means you must be in the designated waiting area to receive a trip request. Drivers waiting elsewhere will not receive trip requests.
Some things to know about the queue:
The queue operates on a first-in-first-out (FIFO) basis, though drivers may choose to accept Trip Radar offers at any time. Proximity to the terminal within the designated driver queue zone does not create an advantage for drivers or move you closer to the top of the queue. You can lose your place in line if: You go offline on your Uber Driver app You drive outside the zone You do not accept multiple incoming trip requests in a row You cancel a ride (if the rider cancels, you will remain at the top of the queue)
Picking up your rider
Once you accept a trip request, navigate to the pickup location for the requested terminal (see maps below):
- Terminal 1 - Head towards Arrivals. As you approach the terminal, follow Uber signage on the left side of the roadway to reach the pickup area.
- Terminal 2 - Head towards Arrivals. After passing the second skyway, follow signs for Authorized Vehicles Only to your left.
Dropoffs at the airport
Riders can be dropped off at the Departures level. If you’d like to receive a trip request afterward, remain online in the Uber Driver app and proceed to a designated waiting area.
Staging information
We’ve collaborated with the Metropolitan Airports Commission to provide an expansive driver waiting area.
- The traditional waiting lot will remain open and available and is located in Lot C along Post Road.
- A broader community waiting area has launched to allow more space for staging and offer convenient access to a wider range of amenities while you wait for trip requests. Boundaries for this waiting area can be found within the Uber Driver app.
Pro-Tips:
- You must have your airport permit sticker on the top-center of your windshield.
- Cars entering the lot after you may leave first due to product eligibility.
- Please park within the provided parking stalls.
