Uploading your documents
To drive using the Driver app, you are required to upload certain documents to get your account set up. Refer to the information below when uploading each document.

Tips for uploading your documents
Follow these tips to ensure that you successfully upload your documents the first time.
Use original documents
Please take photos of your original documents; photocopied documents are not accepted.
Capture the whole document
That means including all 4 edges. If any are cut off, try moving the camera farther away.
Take sharp, clear images
Take photos in a well-lit room and allow your camera to focus first. Avoid blur, glare, and reflections, and make sure text is easy to read.
Upload your driver's licence first
This will speed up the approval process when we need to cross-check your licence with other documents.
It's the quickest and easiest way to upload your documents.
Required documents
You will need to have the following documents to drive with Uber in Manitoba. Take a photo of each of them and upload them to your Uber account.
Driver's licence
A driver's licence is required to drive with Uber. It is also required to deliver (car, not bike) with Uber Eats.
- 21+ years old
- Manitoba Class 1-5 (or 5F) driver's licence or equivalent
- Not accepted: Class 5L, 5I, 5A, or 6
Proof of work eligibility
Proof of work options include any of the following:
- Passport
- Residency card
- Citizenship card
- Work permit
Proof of work eligibility is required to deliver (car and bike) with Uber Eats. If delivering by bike, the proof of work serves as your photo ID. If your proof of work does not contain a photo, please include a separate photo ID in the same picture.
Vehicle registration and insurance with vehicle-for-hire coverage
Only needed for rideshare
- 4-door vehicle with independently opening doors
- Vehicle model year must be 10 years old or newer
- Insurance and registration must be in your name (if not, you must attach a document listing you as a secondary or occasional driver)
- Must be valid and not expired
Regulations require drivers in Winnipeg to have insurance with passenger vehicle-for-hire coverage. To drive using Uber, your vehicle must have coverage in all 4 timebands.
In addition, your insurance territory must be 1, 2, 3, 4, or territory 2 commute to territory 1.
Background check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Only needed for rideshare
Your background screening can be completed online on the Winnipeg Police Service's website. As a new driver, your background screening must include the Vulnerable Sector Search.
Please ensure that the details of each page are visible on your uploads; alternatively, you can upload a PDF document of all the pages.
Regulations require that you upload this document within 90 days of obtaining it.
MPI driver abstract
Only needed for rideshare
Obtain your driver abstract by visiting any MPI Service Centre.
Regulations require that you upload this document within 90 days of obtaining it.
Certificate of inspection
Only needed for rideshare
Your vehicle must have a passed certificate of inspection by an approved mechanic.
Please take a photo of the full page and upload it to your profile.
Regulations require that you upload this document within 30 days of obtaining it.
Child abuse check
Only needed for rideshare
The document is not required before you drive with Uber, but regulations require you to provide either a receipt of your application or the actual child abuse check within 90 days of completing your first Uber trip in Winnipeg.
Note: this document is not uploaded during the onboarding process. After you’ve uploaded all the documents in onboarding, you will be able to access the Driver app and upload your child abuse check.

Manitoba vehicle registration and motor vehicle liability card
Only for Uber Eats
- Vehicle must be 1998 or newer
- Vehicle must be registered in Manitoba
- Insurance and registration must be in your name (if not, you must attach a document listing you as a secondary or occasional driver)
- Must be valid and not expired
Vehicle registration and insurance are required to deliver with Uber Eats if using a car, but not if delivering using a bike.
If you are using a vehicle to deliver, you need to contact your insurance broker to determine whether you need to make any changes to your automobile insurance in order to deliver with Uber Eats.
It is your responsibility to have appropriate insurance coverage in place.
