Which car is right for you? Make sure it meets Uber car requirements in your city and remember that you’ll make more money if you keep your costs low.
Your vehicle must-haves
- 15-year-old vehicle or newer
- Vehicles that are between 11 and 15 years old must have fewer than 150,000 miles
- 4-door vehicle
- Good condition with no cosmetic damage
- No commercial branding
- Have a valid Minnesota or Wisconsin driver's license
City Knowledge Survey
Due to local regulations, all Uber drivers must complete a one-time, 10-question City Knowledge Survey to demonstrate knowledge of driving in the Twin Cities.

- After passing, download the passed certificate (a photo or screenshot is fine)
- To upload your certificate in the Uber Driver app, select 'Account' in the bottom right hand corner, tap 'Documents' and 'City Knowledge Survey'

UberX
Most newer cars qualify to drive with UberX, the most popular vehicle option for riders.
Additional requirements
- 4-door vehicle with independently opening passenger doors
- Have 5 factory-installed seats and seat belts
- Working windows and air conditioning
- No vans, box trucks, or similar vehicles
- No taxi cabs, government cars, or other marked vehicles
- No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
- No aftermarket seating modifications, such as installed seats, seat belts, or BedRyder systems
UberXL
Seat extra passengers—and earn higher fares—with your high-capacity vehicle.
Additional requirements
- 4-door vehicle with independently opening passenger doors
- Have 7 factory-installed seats and seat belts
- Working windows and air conditioning
- No vans, box trucks, or similar vehicles
- No taxi cabs, government cars, or other marked vehicles
- No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
- No aftermarket seating modifications, such as installed seats, seat belts, or BedRyder systems
Uber Black
Offer luxury rides in the original Uber black car service.
Additional requirements
- Keep a star rating of 4.85 or higher
- Commercial insurance
- Additional document required

- Interior: black leather or vegan leather only
- Seat at least 4 passengers in addition to the driver

Uber Black SUV
Make room for the whole crew with this high-end vehicle service. Only black SUVs qualify.

Delivery
As a Delivery Person, you will be connecting people with the local food they love in a way that is faster and more magical than ever before.
Vehicle requirements
At this time we are bringing on vehicles 1999 or newer for delivery.
- Model Year: Must be 1999 or newer
- Body Style: Any 2-door or 4-door vehicles accepted
- No salvaged or rebuilt vehicles
Requirements for vehicle delivery
- 19+ years of age
- Valid Driver's License
- Insurance - Your insurance document cannot be expired and must have your name on the document.
- Background screening - Requires your Social Security Number.

- Bike or electric bike
Requirements for bike delivery
- 19 years of age
- State issued ID
- Background screening - Requires your Social Security Number
How to become a Delivery Person
If you're new to Uber, sign up for an account here
If you're already an UberX driver, head here to opt-in to delivery, or swing by our Greenlight Hub. If you sign up to participate in Delivery, you will receive both UberX and delivery requests. Be sure to choose ‘Biking’ or 'Vehicle' under transportation method.
Comfort
Comfort was designed to maximize possibilities on the Uber platform.
Additional requirements:
- Maintain eligibility on a different Uber option such as UberX, Select, UberXL, Uber Black, or Uber Black SUV
- Have a minimum star rating of 4.85 and have completed at least 100 trips
- Drive a vehicle with more legroom than smaller, compact cars eligible for UberX and that meet the minimum vehicle year requirement
Uber vehicle decals
Under local regulations for Minneapolis - St. Paul, all drivers must display Uber decals on their vehicle while online. Place one on your front passenger windshield and rear passenger windshield. You can remove them when you decide to go offline and save them for the next time. Pro tip: keep the paper it comes with to place your sticker on when not in use.
Once you become an Uber driver, we will mail you a decal. You should receive it within 7 business days. If you ever need a new decal after you become a driver, you can request a new one be mailed to you. You can also pick one up at your local Greenlight Hub.
