Spotlight on safety
Helping to make the Uber Eats platform a safe and enjoyable way for you to earn is a priority. The Follow My Ride feature lets friends and family know where you are and when you arrive.
Here's how it works:
1. Tap the safety shield on the map to open the Safety Toolkit.
2. Select Follow My Ride.
3. The app will then send a message to your designated recipients.
Community Guidelines: focus on safety
While safety is at the center of our technology, Uber’s Community Guidelines set forth safety measures that should also help protect you while delivering through Uber Eats platform.
Respect and legal compliance
Uber’s Community Guidelines require delivery partners and customers to treat one another with respect and follow the law. Report any incident that you believe is in violation of our Community Guidelines, so that we can investigate.
Share the road
Safe roads mean practising safe behaviour, which includes looking out for everyone travelling, regardless of how they get around.
Substitution at Uber Eats
One of the many positives of delivering with Uber Eats is the flexibility that comes from being your own boss and deciding if, when, and where to work. This includes being able to ask someone else, your “substitute”, to complete deliveries for you.
- Appointing and registering a substitute
At any point during the delivery process, you may choose to have someone else deliver on your behalf, provided they meet the below safety conditions. You are fully responsible for all activities performed by your substitute while they are using your account and it is your responsibility to make sure that they meet all of the requirements to deliver with Uber Eats.
You are not required to tell Uber Eats before you use a substitute. However, you will be asked to register them within 48 hours of that substitute providing delivery services on your behalf. This is to verify that they have the right to work in the UK. If they do not, you may lose access to your account.
In the event of a safety incident or other serious incident, you will be required to provide the details of any relevant substitutes you have appointed (including the name of the substitute and their contact details) to law enforcement, as and when requested.
- Who can you choose as a substitute?
Down Small When appointing your substitute, remember you’re still fully responsible for all activities performed by your substitute while using your account and that it’s your responsibility to make sure that they meet all of the requirements to deliver with Uber Eats. You can choose anyone you like to be your substitute, provided they satisfy the following basic safety conditions:
- They are at least 18 years of age
- They have the right to work in the UK
- They do not have any unspent criminal convictions
- They have not had their Uber account deactivated in the past
- They have the relevant insurance, where required
- They know how to perform deliveries safely and in accordance with applicable road safety, food safety and health and safety laws
More safety information is available in the Learning Centre of the Driver App.
- Arrangements with your substitute
Down Small The arrangements you enter into with your substitute are down to you. However, it is important that you make sure your substitute is treated in accordance with the law. In particular, this means they: (1) Should be paid for their work, (2) Should not be made to work against their will, or by the use of force, intimidation or threats, (3) Should not be at risk of being a victim of modern slavery or human trafficking, and (4) Should not be subject to any inhumane treatment.
Any related reports will be reviewed by our safety team and may result in you losing access to your account if these arrangements have not been followed.
- Payment terms
Down Small It is your responsibility to decide payment terms between you and your substitute. The payment for services provided on your Uber Eats account will be made to your bank account using the normal payment method and you are responsible for paying your substitute.
- Managing Restaurant and Customer Delivery Experience
Down Small At Uber Eats, we strive to ensure a seamless delivery experience for all users - couriers, restaurants and customers. When you accept a request from a restaurant, they receive your name, your picture and your vehicle type on their App. Similarly, when you pick up an order from a restaurant, the customers receive these same details on their Uber Eats App.
If you choose to use a substitute to provide deliveries, we recommend that you ask your substitute to let the restaurant and the customer know they are stepping in for you via the app. This is up to you, but letting them know can help ensure a seamless delivery and avoid any possible confusion.
- Safety
Down Small It is your responsibility to ensure that your appointed substitute is aware of how to make food deliveries safely. This includes making sure that they are aware of our food safety guidance and their obligations when delivering age restricted items. More information on safety is available in the Learning Centre of the Driver App.
