About the Role

  • As a Staff Software Engineer on the Display Ads team at Uber, you will be at the forefront of building and scaling Uber's advertising products and its underlying platform.
  • Your work will enable Uber to provide personalized and relevant ad experiences, driving both customer satisfaction and revenue growth.
  • You will collaborate across teams, including product, data science, and design, to deliver world-class advertising solutions that support Uber’s growth strategy.
  • In this role, you’ll tackle complex engineering challenges that come with operating at Uber’s scale, working on systems that are highly available, reliable, and performance-optimized.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of new ad products, features, and platforms that enhance the advertiser and user experience.
  • Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions that align with Uber’s ad strategy.
  • Build robust, scalable, and efficient systems that handle real-time user data, ad requests, and delivery at scale.
  • Develop personalized ad products leveraging data insights, A/B testing, and machine learning models to optimize ad performance and relevance.
  • Ensure ad products are compliant with privacy and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) while maintaining user trust.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on technical designs, coding best practices, and architecture.
  • Drive the long-term vision for ad products, identifying opportunities for new advertising formats and monetization strategies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Go, Java, Python, or similar.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale projects from concept through to production, handling complex system designs and integration challenges.
  • Expertise in designing scalable & reliable systems in a microservices architecture.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver complex, user-facing product solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on product development and large-scale system design.
  • Deep experience in developing product features and/or platforms for digital advertising.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical strategy and long-term vision for engineering initiatives.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
